Progressive Democratic lawmakers sponsor Senate and House bills to monitor talk radio and alternative Internet news sites. The bill reflects an old Clinton era fear that democratizing information makes spinning the news difficult for government. Attacking First Amendment freedom, they believe, will be more palatable for Americans if truth is redefined as “hate speech.”
